As the first spin-off from Zack Snyder's zombie heist flickArmy of The Dead,Army of Thievesshares some of the previous film's extensive cast of characters. Set in the same zombie-infested alternate universe as the original, the follow-up/prequel is more of a traditional heist comedy than its predecessor. However, despite this change in tone, the movie still shares much ofArmy of The Dead's DNA.
Army of Thieves follows the story of one of the original movie's most popular characters – the quirky German safecracker Ludwig Deiter. Set six years before the events ofArmy of The Dead, the movie imagines a world in which the zombie outbreak that defined the first film is in its infancy – causing havoc to established industries like banking. Deiter, who is barely beginning his career, is hired by a group of fellow thieves tobreak into threenotorious safes as the zombieepidemic rages across the country. Although Snyder has confirmed that zombies will appear in the movie, they are not the main focus, with the plot mainlyfocused around the central safe heist.

WhileArmy of The Dead fans will recognize the returning Ludwig Deiter (played by actor and directorMatthias Schweighöfer), many of theArmy of Thievescast are completely new to the franchise. However, as a nod to the original film, there are also some returning roles for a few major players. Here's the complete cast and character guide forArmy of Thieves.
Matthias Schweighöfer as Ludwig Deiter
Reprising his role from the originalArmy of The Dead film, Matthias Schweighöfer plays the central character, Ludwig Deiter. Setsix years before the first film,Army of Thieves sees Deiter beginning his career as a so-called "safecracker extraordinaire". He is persuaded to join the central team after being approached by Nathalie Emmanuel's mysterious Gwendoline. Interestingly,Schweighöfer also serves as the film's director, with Zack Snyder stepping back as the film's producer.
Nathalie Emmanuel as Gwendoline

The leader of the main heist team, Emmanuel's Gwendoline is a mysterious character whose motives are not immediately apparent. Skilled in hand-to-hand combat, Gwendoline is also Deiter's main romantic interest in the film, as well as his recruiter. Away fromArmy of Thieves, Emmanuel herself is probably best known for the role of Missandei on HBO's hit fantasy seriesGame of Thrones, as well as the recurring role of Megan Ramsay in the last threeFast and Furious films.
Guz Khan as Rolph

The team's getaway driver, Guz Khan's Rolph is a slightly maniacal car expert and a crucial part of the proposed heist operation. In the film's trailer, for instance, he is seen laughing gleefully in the midst of a fast-paced escape as his passenger, presumed to be Ludwig, recoils in terror. Khan himself is not an established action star, and is best known for his role in the British comedy seriesMan Like Mobeen.

Ruby O. Fee as Korina

The group's "master hacker" Ruby O. Fee's Korina is the team's tech expert and the one responsible for finding the three safes at the center of the Army of Thievesstory. Although not as physically imposing as other characters on the mission, Korina is shown to be an irreverent wise-cracking crew member, constantly blowing bubblegum as she accesses various computer systems. As for O. Fee herself, the Costa Rica-born star is both an actor and producer, best known for her roles inThe Invisibles andPolar.
Stuart Martin as Brad Cage

Described as the team's "very own real-life action hero", Stuart Martin's Brad Cage serves as the crew's muscle and enforcer. In the trailer, he is seen expertly taking down security personnel, as well as displaying an uncompromising, no-nonsense attitude in the face of Ludwig Deiter's more whimsical approach. Martin himself is primarily a television actor, withArmy of Thieves representing his first major movie appearance.
Army of Thieves Supporting Cast and Characters

Jonathan Cohenas Delacroix:A hapless police detective on the trail of the main cast, Delacroix is shown in a less than flattering light in the Army of Thievestrailer. In addition to the thwarted law enforcement official,Parisian actor Jonathan Cohen has appeared in a number of French films and TV series.
Noemie Nakai as Beatrix:Playing a supporting role to Cohen's Delacroix, Nakai's Beatrix is a less senior member of the police team assembled to stop the Army of Thieves. Pior to her appearance in the movie, Nakai is primarily known for her work in a number of TV commercials, although she will also appear in upcoming crime drama,Tokyo Vice, starring Ansel Elgort.
Hiroyuki Sanada as Bly Tanaka:Although he only appears in a photograph, Hiroyuki Sanada reprises his role fromArmy of The Deadas billionaire Bly Tanaka. While the extent of his role inArmy of Thieves is more limited, his character is still key to the events of the plot. Beyond Snyder's burgeoning Army-verse, Sanada is well known for his performances in films such asThe Wolverine and as Scorpion in theMortal Kombatreboot.
