Farm Crazy Experience from Cait

There's a creature called the Cait that randomly appears in the overworld in Octopath Traveler. It looks like a cat with a loot sack over its shoulder, and faces away from you. If defeated, it grants 1000XP, plus 3,000 Gold, and 150 JP.

Defeating it is no easy task. It has incredibly high defense, so it's near impossible to do more than one damage per attack. The Cait's evasion stat is also incredibly high, and it has the tendency to flee from battle rather quickly. Luckily, its HP pool is very small, so your best bet is getting multiple attacks out at once to defeat it. Here are a few methods to defeat the Cait.

1. H'aanit, a Hunter, can learn an attack called Arrowstorm which hits every enemy 5-8 times. The Support Skill Heighten Senses, which increases the chance to strike first in battle, is also incredibly useful in this scenario. Make sure H'aanit has very high accuracy to ensure a majority of the strikes hit their mark. You should be able to take the Cait out with this single attack on your first turn.
2. Any Medium Soulstone should one-shot the Cait. These are also very useful in boss battles though, so use wisely.
3. Any Dagger, Sword, Stave, or Axe user that can attack multiple times will take out the Cait's shield, giving you additional time to defeat it. Don't hold back - because it has high evasion, so you'll probably need to attack it more than just twice.

There are also Cultured Caits and Chubby Caits, which are much rarer. A Dancer can potntially summon these with Bewildering Dance, but it's a very rare effect. Cultured and Chubby Caits are stronger and have 4 Shields, but are weak to the same attack types. However, these Caits cannot be one-shot by a Medium Soulstone. A Large Soulstone, or a Sorcerer's powerful attack such as Ignis Ardere, will take care of them more reliably.

Additional Cait Farming Tips

• Use the Dancerskill Bewildering Grace to potentially multiply the amount of XP and JP you get. Be wary though - this skill could potentially damage your party instead. Primrose is a Dancer by default.
• Use the Merchant Divine Skill, Bifelgan's Bounty, to steal tons of cash from the Cait while in battle. Tressa is a Merchant by default.
• Consider catching the Cait with H'aanit's Beast Lore skill. On your team, the Cait will use Luck of the Cait which buffs allies and debuffs enemies, giving you a nice edge in battle against tough bosses. Break its shield or use a small Soulstone to get it to a capturable state, and use a fully boosted Capture for a higher chance. Use Energizing Pomegranate on H'aanit prior to her turn to increase her BP.

Heal H'annit in Battle with Mossy Meep

The Mossy Meep is a crucial early game creature to capture as H'aanit as it can heal her when summoned. This is especially helpful when fighting provocation battles where you can only use captured beasts. Return to the North S'warkii Trail to capture the Mossy Meep.

Deal Huge Damage with H'aanit's Salamander Summon

With a Strength level of 5, this creature is incredibly useful when captured by H'aanit. The Salamander can be found at the Path of Rhyio, where you must go to complete Alfyn's first chapter. This creature unleashes a crazy strong Blinding Charge which deals Spear damage twice to one enemy and has a chance to blind them.

Get an Incredibly Powerful Axe Early

The Golden Axe is incredibly powerful, especially early on. It boasts a 256 physical attack stat - an insane upgrade from the basic Handaxe Alfyn and H'aanit start with, which has only 8 physical attack.

Needed:

• Therion
• H'aanit or Olberic

Alfyn's starting area, Clearbrook in the Riverlands, holds a secret inside the house on the westside by some cows. "Granddaughter" is standing outside blocking the door, and will tell you about her grandfather's cough. Inquiring or Scrutinizing her will reveal that there's a hidden item nearby - which is, of course, inside.

'Provoke her with H'aanit or Challenge her with Olberic and defeat her to get her to move out of the way. She's weak to swords and not very powerful.

Once inside the house she was blocking, you can Steal from the grandfather with Therion. He has a Golden Axe on him, which is incredibly powerful.

Save before attempting to steal it, as the chance is only 3%, and if you fail four times your reputation will suffer and you will be unable to attempt again.

Unlock Secondary Jobs

Yes, each of your characters can learn a second Job. Head to Job Shrine Locations to see where to go to learn these new skills, and check out the individual Job pages to see what skills and bonus stats each Job comes with. You can swap out secondary jobs at will at any tavern once you've unlocked them.

Unlock Secret Jobs

But wait, there's more. There are Secret Jobs you can only unlock by heading to difficult Level 50 Secret Shrines]. These are incredibly powerful jobs that can only be procured when you're strong enough to conquer them - so don't head to them before you're ready unless you want your butt handed to you.
