Aquí (y desde aquí, en Masumura), toda una familia léxica del castellano 'palma' (palmar, palmario, empalmar, palmear...), toda una etimología, o sea, una iconología de ella; del verbo 'palmar': "dar por fuerza algo", en el Diccionario de la RAE; aquí, "pasar por fuerza algo", "algo pasa por fuerza", referido a lasapariencias.

前20分钟以为是Giallo，接下来20分钟以为是Noir，最后果然还是熟悉的日系社会派。但，作为一个真凶出场第一镜就已经把身份写在脸上的悬疑故事，不仅最后轻松撇开男性的罪过（竟然还需要另一个男性来做“爱的导师”……），真相还这么悬浮单薄可不行哈。

This film (aka For My Daughter's Seventh Birthday) is Masumura's final film and as mentioned in other reviews contains many of his earlier themes from other films. It is a kind of detective procedural where a veteran journalist is trying to track down the mysterious palm reader who is affecting Japanese governmental policy with her popularity among politicians in making impactful decisions about society. Then there's the abandoned child, Maya looking for the father that abandoned her and her mother (Kyoko Kishida who will forever be the Woman in the Dunes for me). It was a compelling film, and much better than anticipated.

Not a bad way to end your career with a film that just about encapsulates all of your preoccupations. While very much a standard police procedural, this film has just about all of your favorite Masamura-isms, with revenge, political intrigue, and women in society all at the forefront. Child Abuse can lead to
some traumatic experiences!
When you abuse your child from early on and give it the gift of your suicide at its seventh Birthday, you simply have to know, that you destroyed a life beyond repair. A memory that is so heavily ingrained, that it's practically impossible to sooth over those facts.

This makes a lot of sense as Masumura's last film, but it is a little controled to quite registers as he seems to hope and ends more effective as a well-made potboiler with some perverse touches.
